You’re probably still getting some steel in the weed. It is very unlikely the knife and the grinder share the exact hardness.
cars are safer now than they’ve ever been for both drivers and pedestrians
Cars don’t need to be going high speeds to be dangerous to pedestrians. Roads near pedestrians can be designed poorly allowing drivers to go significantly faster than the intended limits.
I don’t think the average human has enough mass to meaniningfully use a crumplezone. The trend of higher bumper heights causes more head an chest injuries than lower bumper heights. Higher bumper heights also increase the chances of being run over.
The average car is also much heavier these days and simple math means that car will have more force on impact at the same speed compared to a lighter car.
If cars are safer for pedestrians than ever, then why are pedestrian deaths increasing?
The limit should be the enforceable and safe speed for the road, the road design should reflect the desired speedlimit.
My area recently built highway bypasses around town. One section is built exactly like a freeway but they slapped a 60 km/h sign on it. Nobody does 60 km/h because the road feels like, and is designed for, 100 km/h. This is the wrong way to do it. If a road is a 60 km/h zone, the lanes should be more narrow and the banking on the turns should not allow average drivers to feel safe at 120 km/h.
How many of those sirens are responding to a car related accident?I would assume a signifcant amount. They may also be able to use their sirens less if streets were less congetsed. I’m also much more forgiving hearing a siren responding to an emergency than hearing a modfiied honda fart all the way to McDonalds.
Not doing anything about car noise pollution just because sirens and helicopters still exist is a poor solution.
Weed isn’t illegal in my country. It is also unsafe for them and others to be driving so unsafely and there is no other service that can intervene with them.
I see many motorcyclists doing this but it is not the majority of riders. I’ve started reporting dangerous driving, aggressive driving, dangerous passes, and high speed drivers to police. On major or regional highways it is often effective as I’ll pass them pulled over later, results in towns/cities are less reliable due to traffic and more route options.
For the bikers I consider it a favour to them, one I called in was practically asking to get flattened by a semi truck, riding the line while tailgating people waiting to pass. Even if they don’t hit anything their erratic driving could cause another driver to panic, swerve, or brake and could cause an accident.
Won’t anyone think of the poor suburbanites? These walkable cities are so hostile to them, where can they park their chevy suburban megacab ultrawide edition?
My city bought out some succesful busniesses downtown to demolish their buildings and build a new stadium with surface level parking for all the people who live outside of the city to drive to. Can we at least get a parking garage instead of surface level so we dont have to demolish businesses and homes for the benefits of suburban and rural sports fans? My city is small enough that the footprint of the stadium will be 1/4 or more of the whole downtown area, just sitting there empty for 90% of the time.
Once EVs become popular many of their designs will mimic what we see today with trucks and SUVs. We need regulation specifically for bumper shapes and hood heights. This can help enforce better visibility and improve crash outcomes as lower, curved out hoods push people away or over the car. The current flat and tall hoods on trucks push people under the car.
The number of people who creep forward and honk at seniors crossing a street at a crosswalk while they have the signal is absurd. Imagine being so impatient that you nearly run over your own grandmother to shave 5 seconds off your travel time.
I specifically try to never let a car take my right of way while crossing, too often i see people just wave a left turning car through then 5 other cars go and now the crossing is red and you have to wait another 5 minute for a safe chance to cross.
Most wagons will suck on stairs. Heavier loads will be difficult to manage on hills, both going up and going down. Curbs are usually manageable.
In general it is usually easier to pull than to push.
Would you make the same argument for emergency services closing lanes to responds to an accident?
We have an awful 5 lane road in town with school bus stops all along it. The limit is 60 km/h but the average speed is about 85. There is 1 speed camera right where the 60 zone begins and ive NEVER seen a real cop doing radar on the road. There are many signs asking people to slow down and stop for the bus but no real effort has been made. One kid did die and we just plaster his face all over town yet still just accept that everyone is doing 25+ over the limit.
There are multiple solutions including using more speed cameras, running more radar enforcement in the area, redesigning the road, moving the bus stops to side streets that are safer to stop and cross on, but absolutely non of these have been tried or implemented. Hell the existing speed camera is vandalized so often I’d bet it costs more than in generates in tickets, people have thrown it in the lake multiple times (yet the city still insists on keeping the mailbox style instead of a pole mounted camera).
Need money but have to waste time working? That justifys theft.
Where is the human empathy if the suspended driver harms or kills another community memeber in a car crash?
I saw a lady on a mobility scooter on roadways and having to cross intersections (no sidewalks available). I can promise you she would have felt much safer in a dedicated lane of some sort instead of sharing the road with hoods taller than her scooter.
Personally i just use a toothpick, but i usually clean for smooth operation as I rarely run out these days.
