How about, you, anon, set up a server, provide a simple upload API, and convince your favorite content creator to upload there? Since it’s no costs for them and very little work, they might. Maintain that for a year, then we’ll talk.
This market domination is non-discriminatory. It’s not like you go to your local car dealerships and they don’t sell you any other brand than GM. Everyone on the internet is free to go and use any other service. It’s dominant because users are happy with their ads or subscription fees instead of investing their time into using a competing product.

If someone would be buying those, someone would be selling. You have all the opportunity to fork current android, put it on a different platform, make sure all the drivers are open source instead of blobs, and sell it.
I’d really want to buy one. But I’ll only do that after you somehow make sure the 3-5 major messaging apps, 2-3 major browsers, and a really good maps app are available.
So, basically, it’s a 100 mil endeavor for an MVP really. So, I think, the chances of someone actually pulling it off are pretty slim.
The f are you on about? YouTube has a fairly affordable ad-free tier with a transparent revenue-share model that multiple top content creators have openly endorsed.
This ad infested hell only exists because most of the internet users think it’s outrageous to pay 10$/month for an all-you-can-eat VoD service. Some top creators did branch out to create their own streaming services, and spoiler alert, it’s more expensive, or just as expensive but with muuuuch less content.
I do care if all that YT content is gone. It’s a fuckin goldmine.

And we discussed how unethical it was to block ads, cuz the imageboard needs to pay for hosting. So either donate or click on the ads, ane make sure the revenue flows. (Remember the tiny text “please click on the ads, it supports the site”?)
We offloaded imagehosting to shady weird websites with virus autodownloaders, where you absolutely had to block JS just so you don’t get pwned. And so some suckers would eventually get pwned, have their screen locked, pay ransom, and finance our collective love for zipgifs.

I never understood, and never will understand this.
Even when I was a poor teenager and pirated essentially everything I always knew that this content only exists because someone is paying for it.
How do people go around feeling like the best VoD platform to ever exist, available on every device imaginable, optimized for years by best software engineers the world has, should be free, and without ads is beyond me.
