I had to do a lot of configuration work on Win10 computers lately. The MMC, Powershell, even Regedit are faster and more intuitive than Settings. It’s fucking ridiculous.
And the fact that Epic couldn’t cobble together a content delivery platform that supported preloading before BL3’s release.
And the fact that they used Steam essentially as an advertising platform until the TOS was changed.
F-droid exists as an alternative. Manually installing APK files is also an alternative. You can have a full and complete experience without ever touching Google Play or Google services.
This is why nobody likes stallmanites. You can nitpick as much as you want with that attitude and find something non-free somewhere in the ecosystem, but that does not mean that the entire project is now non-free. Again, you are arguing in bad faith against the first guaranteed freedom of free software.
Please explain why you think they’re endorsing it.
You can install and run non-free applications (like games or the nvidia driver) on Linux distributions. Does that make Linux non-free?
I would argue that restricting an OS to run exclusively FOSS code robs the user of the first guarantee of free software: “the freedom to use the program for any purpose”.

Modern, performant computer graphics is an incredibly complex topic full of hacks, workarounds, and edge cases. It’s possible that an update to DirectX/OpenGL/Vulkan caused some edge case interaction between the application and the graphics pipeline to fail somewhere. Updating the GPU driver (mesa, nvidia, amdgpu, or whatever Windows equivalent) could mitigate that failure.
I remember having to update the Nvidia Windows driver when Cyberpunk 2077 was released to fix an issue related to transparent foliage (transparency is always a pain in the ass to deal with).

I’m sure this will be shocking to you yankees, but not everybody is an American. Over this side of the Atlantic we have actual traffic laws to regulate how multi-ton death machines are operated, and they require certain safety equipment to be present in all vehicles. Things like:

High-vis equipment is required here when a person has to spend an extended period on roads outside inhabited areas (actually high-vis gear is mandatory in all motor vehicles), and are required to walk on the left side to always have oncoming traffic in sight as opposed to behind. Larger roads have mitigation structures (mounds, fences, warnings signs, speed limits, or grade separation) where wildlife is known to cause problems. Our taxes pay for road inspection and maintenance services to clear natural or manmade obstacles.
Horse-drawn carriages are slow-moving vehicles just like construction or agricultural equipment, or stationary obstacles. They present a danger if visibility is limited by weather or the road’s curvature.
Where I live, every vehicle is required to be illuminated when outside city limits, including carriages, and the horses themselves.
